Type 188

Type 188

G3693  The first Bristol turbojet aeroplane to be built and flown, the Type 188, was almost the last true Bristol type to fly, when the British Aircraft Corporation had been in existence for nearly two years.

Originally Rolls-Royce Avon RA.24R engines were proposed, but later DH Gyron Junior DGJ.10 engines became available and were substituted; they were mounted forward of the main stuctural nacelle barrels, which were machined from stainless steel forgings with internal integral ring frames corresponding with the multiple inner and outer wing attachment lugs.
