G1181. A view of the completed High Altitude Test Plant at Rolls-Royce Patchway. This unit was to investigate the effects of altitude on the engines and their systems under high altitude conditions. The Ram jet division were also based from here. To the right is the railway line that continues on through the Severn tunnel to Newport. The housing of Patchway come right up to the perimeter fence and must have been quite noisy for the residents.
