The End of West Works

The End of West Works

Go back to the records from the 1971 map.

G1407. Taken from over the flyover on the A38 Bristol to Gloucester road, the final end of the World War 1-built West Works hangars and the engine division offices, home to Sir Roy Fedden and his team for so many years. Many believed that something of the hangars should have been retained, but the harsh reality of modern business shows no sentiment to buildings when they get in the way of progress. A new Royal Mail complex was built on the site.
