Aerial View of East and West Works Circa 1997

Aerial View of East and West Works Circa 1997

Go back to the records from the 2003 map.

G1796. This aerial view of East works and West works is looking Northwards. On the left is the A38 Gloucester Road winding its way between the East and West sites. On the left are Airbus A300's which are parked on the apron behind the new Royal Mail sorting office (site of the old Bristol Aeroplane Company - Engines - West Works). The A300's are waiting to be converted to Freighters by BAE Aviation Services. This work was done in what were known as the 'Brabazon Hangars'. On the right hand side are the No's 1-5 factory workshops of East Works. Beyond you can see the the housing estates of Filton, Patchway, Little Stoke and Bradley Stoke surrounding the area. In the foreground are the green playing fields with their football goalposts clearly visible.
