Aerial View of East Works

Aerial View of East Works

Go back to the records from the 1955 map.

G2050. Taken during the very late 1940's or early 1950's this is a view of East Works with the A38 Gloucester Road running adjacent to it. There is a long-nosed Bristol Freighter sat on the turning circle with the second world war air raid shelters clearly visible on the air field alongside the A38. The housing estates of Patchway and Filton are situated to the north and north-east of the works. Business was brisk with Hercules, Centaurus, and Olympus 101-301 being built at this time, there was plenty of work available for the local population, living in the local housing estates.
