Aerial View of East Works and Airfield

Aerial View of East Works and Airfield

Go back to the records from the 2003 map.

G2248. Rolls-Royce East Works in 1997, with a view of the airfield beyond. The A38 Gloucester Road runs from left to right near the top. Top left is the Royal Mail Sorting Office. At the very top is the former Royal Air Force base at Filton. A number of Airbus airliners are stored on the former north-south runway, awaiting conversion to freighters. Just below the extensive car park on the left of the photograph, the red-bricked square building with the long tubular shaped extractors is the famous Olympus test sheds. The research and development facilities sit opposite them.
