Aerial view of Filton Airfield 1997

Go back to the records from the 2003 map.

G2652. The Rolls-Royce East Works are situated on the lower left hand side of the picture showing No 1 - 5 Shops, numbered from the main A38, which horizontally dissects the picture. Dividing the factory is Gipsy Patch Lane, and the red-bricked building of Whittle House is on the right-hand side. The Royal Mail sorting office is on the north side of the A38. Visible is the main east/west runway, the large Brabazon Assembly Hall at the top just left of centre, and part of the Airbus complex to the left of that. To the right of the runway is the former RAF base, of which only the hangars remain. Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust who recently moved sites within the East Works complex is housed on the lower right-hand side. RRHT is run by retired volunteers who were in the aviation industry, often from Patchway and Bristol.
