Type 142M in 1937 on the airfield at Filton

Type 142M in 1937 on the airfield at Filton

Back to the story

G1003. Blenheim Type 142M. Derived from the Britain First of 1935, this aircraft benefited from shadow factory production and ensured that the RAF had some useful aircraft for offensive work at the beginning of hostilities in 1939. The shadow factory programme was begun in 1935 and would get car manufacturers and other similar engineering works geared up to produce aircraft parts thus 'Shadowing' the aircraft manufacturers themselves. This ensured continued production of fighting aircraft despite bombing raids.
