Sir Roy Fedden

Sir Roy Fedden

Back to the story

G1201. This well known picture of Sir Roy Fedden, the charismatic engine designer at Bristol Aeroplane Company, was taken by Dorothy Wilding. Fedden joined the company in 1920 and over the next twenty years built up an engine division with a world-wide reputation for engine quality and reliability. Working with his colleague Butler they finally cracked the sleeve valve engine design and built very powerful radial engines which continued the reputation of Bristol built engines well into the gas turbine era.
