Bristol Fighter F. 2B prepares for action. | |
| |
| G1772. A Bristol Fighter, somewhere on the Western Front in 1917, prepares for a combat mission. The pilot has a forward firing machine gun and, to get the best from such a manoeuvrable aircraft will fly it like a single seat fighter. The observer, also equipped with a Lewis gun will keep off the tail chasers. Note the warm clothing, no heating and the forward speed of the aircraft would make the crew's job very hard. Note also that the crew are not equipped with parachutes, it was considered not necessary and may even be detrimental to their operational efficiency. | |
