XA 894 Olympus test bed

XA 894 Olympus test bed

Back to the story

G2560. XA894 the Vulcan B1 used by Bristol Siddeley engines to test the Olympus 22R which had been designed for use in the TSR2. The engine is seen underslung, partly in the bomb bay with the intake forward under the wing leading edge. The four main engines could be run back to flight idle and the one engine could be tested.. The Vulcan was itself powered by earlier versions of the Bristol Olympus engines as standard fit.
