Coanda Monoplane

Coanda Monoplane

Back to the story

G1464. A single seater Coanda W.O. monoplane dating from around 1912/13. The Bristol name can be clearly seen on the tail fin. The rather incongruous pram style undercarriage may look odd but at that time, and for many years after, all aircraft were tail wheel equipped. This arrangement gave much better pilot visibilty on the ground and more stable taxiing. The normal powerplant would have been a Gnome engine of 80 hp.
